Mac vs. PC: Displaying the file/directory structure

Since the start of the year, I have been been developing more on my MacBook Pro, but still having Windows XP, by running Parallels, and I am having one big problem between the two.

The file structure display.

Mac OS X alphabetically sorts the directories and the static files all together into one tree.

I hate this and I think it's just because I have been used to the PC for all these years. IMHO, directories should be organized together and static files should be organized together as below.

Does anybody have any MAC OS tips, online resources, or applications that will help me with this problem? Is this just a UNIX vs. PC thing or am I just missing something here?

Try opening your folder in "column" view, then ctrl-click in the folder you want to change. Click "Show View Options", then the "Arrange By" drop-down menu.

You can do your sorting by "Kind" which will group all the folders together - however the rest of the files won't be strictly alphabetical. They will be grouped together by file type and then alphabetical.

I think it is more of a PC way vs. The Right Way :-)

It's rather broken English, but the answer is a good one.

Thanks for the help guys. I look forward to using your tips. Mat, I really haven't looked into your hack yet. When I get some breathing time I will.

Thanks again.

I plan on it... next machine will be the refreshed MBP, coming out shortly. No more Windows BS.
